Mouton Rothschild starts the auction season with a bang

Hong Kong has kicked off the year with a bang with a record setting wine auction last weekend. All eyes were on Sotheby's Hong Kong ex-château sale of Mouton Rothschild, it received a 100% clearance with 93% of all lots selling in excess of their pre-auction high estimates. This was an exceptional result, realising more the double the pre-auction estimate. The top sale was a 66 bottle vertical of 68 vintages which realised $376,900. The vertical was from 1945 to 2012 and excluding the 1958 and 1963. With the logo of Mouton Rothschild incorporating a ram, it no doubt helped the sales as we approached the Chinese New Year which will be the Year of the Ram. Strong demand for Mouton Rothschild vintages from Asian clients is expected to continue.
