All 100-point Bordeaux wines trading under £4,500

All of the 49 100-point wines from both banks of the Gironde are currently below £4,500 per case of 12, according to data compiled by Liv-ex. Twelve are below £2,000.

All of the vintages are 2005, 2009 and 2010, with the exception of the 2000 vintage from La Mission Haut Brion and Pavie, which supports Liv-ex’s opinion that several of La Mission’s vintages are currently at a price level well below those suggested by their scores, and that Pavie is more like a ‘second growth’ price-wise.

Despite the 2005 being a particularly feted vintage it had dropped back to its release price in the period before Parker’s 10-year retrospective, and according to Liv-ex “they have not had time to appreciate in price – or their 100-point status has not been fully embraced”.

As for the 2009s and 2010s, they are still suffering from the market’s three year decline which has seen prices fall as much as 40%-50% for some wines.

Liv-ex director Justin Gibbs said: “2005, 2009 and 2010 are the three most awarded vintages of all time and are still available in the market, which some may see as an opportunity.”
